Abstract
Objective: In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of empowerment programs for family caregivers through a literature review.

Methods: PubMed and Embase were used to search for papers published between January 2013 and May 2023. The main search terms included "empowerment program," "caregiver," "caregivers," and "family caregiver." Out of 420 search results, 5 foreign papers were selected using the evidence-level hierarchy for evidence-based practice and PEDro scale. An analysis of the studies was presented using the PICO framework.

Results: The subjects of the selected paper were caregivers of patients with dementia, mild cognitive impairment, stroke, and multiple sclerosis. Over a period of 4 days to 12 weeks, education, counseling, and discussions were provided to family caregivers. Intervention was found to be effective in areas such as depression, quality of life, caregiving burden, caregiving attitude, and self-efficacy.

Conclusion: Through this study, it was confirmed that an intervention of a empowerment program for family caregivers of chronic patients in adults and the elderly was effective. The results provide information and grounds for clinical use of intervention programs for family caregivers as well as further research.
